The Way Community

The Way is a community of homeless men. It was set up to provide support and a space for community living over 20 years ago.
The Way is looking for people to volunteers for a couple of hours each week. The best times are weekdays between 5 and 8, Friday and Saturday nights.

Shekinah Homeless Services is a consortium of organisations that provide services to homeless people around Victoria.
Some of these organisations include Corpus Christi Greenvale (Jesuit ministry); The Way; and St Mary’s House of Welcome.

The Hotham MissionAsylum Seekers Project
|
The Asylum Seeker Project is an organisation that provides a wide range of supports to marginalised asylum seekers on Bridging Visas who lack most benefits.
They are always looking for volunteers to link up and accompany asylum seeker families and individuals; they have men’s and women’s groups.

Pallotti College, Millgrove
|
Pallottine priests in Australia work closely with lay people to continue their missions. Live-in volunteers are needed to help run Pallotti College and Montserrat in Millgrove, Victoria.
They provide a retreat centre for a wide variety of people with various spiritual and emotional needs.
Live-in volunteers also run Casa Pallotti, which is a leadership centre for youth.

SAIL involves about 350 people every week. This group is comprised of 240 Sudanese community members all of whom have recently arrived in Australia from North Africa.
As it has since 2000, the SAIL Program continues to provide a variety of free community services to all members of Melbourne's Sudanese Community, including tutoring to Sudanese students on a weekly basis. |

St John the Evangelist Primary School, Wednesday and Friday night tutoring
|
Each Wednesday and Friday afternoon during the school term at 4:45pm, dozens of kids and as many tutors gather at St John’s school in East Melbourne for tutoring ‘til 6pm. All of the kids are from non-English speaking backgrounds!

Jesuit Social Services is a Victorian based Jesuit Ministry which runs lots of programs for young people who have had a difficult start in life. There are mentoring programs, Gateway, ConneXions, the Brosnan Centre, arts and culture programs.
