Josephite Community Aid |
Formed in 1986 by a group of lay people, supported by the Josephite Sisters, JCA is a community of young adults who are committed to helping those in need. We give time to working with people who are poor or powerless, including refugees and asylum seekers and people from boarding houses who are suffering from mental illness, by offering assistance through friendship and support, home visits, group activities, English language tuition and family. We also offer an opportunity to work full-time for a year or six months; basic living expenses are covered as well as accommodation, food and a small allowance. |

Gethsemane Community
|
The Gethsemane Community is a small community of people who struggle with psychiatric illness, intellectual and other disabilities; people who are homeless as a result of family breakdowns or personal trauma resulting from disabilities. For volunteers, the community offers an opportunity to share one’s own resources with people by helping occasionally, or on a regular basis, with housekeeping, cooking or shopping. It also offers the friendliness and support of the wider community who visit for a cup of coffee, a meal, or come to share in the celebration of the Eucharist.

Jesuit Refugee Service Australia |
The JRS is an international refugee agency which began in 1980. It was a response by the then Superior General of the Jesuits, Pedro Arrupe SJ, to the situation of Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees. It operates in 40 countries.
In Australia, volunteers are always needed to do office duties, website maintenance, reports, monitoring refugee situations - and there may be opportunities to become involved in a more hands-on capacity.
